Book Club updates:
In Reading, we are starting our second round of book clubs. I am really looking forward to this unit! We hope you talk to your student about their topics and what they are learning about the world and history around them. For this round of book clubs, each club will be reading a different novel- Brown: Red Scarf Girl Cooper: Number the Stars Glenn: Al Capone Does my Shirts. With the novel, they will be completing a Research Project based on the background of the novel (Brown: China Cooper: World War II Glenn: Alcatraz, San Fransisco, America in the 1920s-1960, Autism) This is a formal five paragraph research report following MLA format. We will update you with final due date as we get closer. We will research together this week, and by Tuesday 1/19, all research should be complete. The students need 3 sources on their topic: at least one book, one article from the web, and a third source of their choice. We are helping collect sources at school, but if you are able to bring your student to The Westfield Library that would really help them become a mini-expert on their topic. At the end of the unit there will be a Research Presentation Day. We will be sending more information home as the date gets closer. We are planning for the end of February- parents, grandparents, etc. are welcome!
Students– here is a link for the search engine I showed you in class! Also, attached is a copy of the notes source page if you need one at home!
