Meet the Teacher
Hello, welcome to first grade! My name is Christie Buonanno. If you are visiting my page, it is most likely because I’ve been blessed to have your child in my classroom this school year.
I’d love for you to get to know me a bit better, as I will be working closely with your children and you all year. In time, I hope I get to know all of you too, as the first grade experience is a partnership between parents, teacher, and child.
This is my thirteenth year teaching first grade for Westfield- Washington Schools. I simply cannot imagine doing anything else than working with first graders. They are so much fun and watching them learn and grow is extremely rewarding.
I began my teaching career working for Dr. Scott Williams at Washington Woods Elementary. When Maple Glen Elementary School opened three years later, I transferred. This is now my thirteenth year, wow!
A little bit about me…
I grew up as an only child on the west side of Indianapolis where I attended Pike Township Schools. After high school, I attended Purdue University in West Lafayette where I studied education and received a Bachelor of Arts degree. I also have a minor in reading and endorsements in kindergarten and computer technology. While my heart belongs to Purdue, I did graduate from Ball State with a Masters in Education. As you’ll soon learn, I am a die hard Boilermaker fan and I’ll work my hardest to mold your children that direction too-ha!
In 2008, I married my wonderful husband Nathan. We have four beautiful little boys and a squirrely little dog. Our son James is 5 and just started kindergarten at MGES. Garrett is only ten months behind him at the age of 4 and Isaiah is 3. We are working to finalize the adoption of our fourth son, Patrick, who will be 2 in December. My boys are my entire world! I never knew you could love someone so much until they came into my life, but as parents, you know what that feels like. You’ll hear a lot of stories about the boys, as well as our little dog Laney.
Nathan, my husband, graduated from Providence College and went on to get his masters degree from Indiana University. It’s just one of the things we’ve learned to compromise on. 🙂
Our family is very active and we love the great outdoors. Running, biking, swimming, and sports are some of our passions. Together we love to play, go to the park, watch movies, go to theme parks to ride roller coasters, and try anything new we can experience. We attend Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church where Nathan is also the Stewardship Director. It’s been a great place to volunteer and help serve others as a family. As some of you may already know, we are foster parents in Hamilton County and have been blessed to serve children in so many capacities. We’ve even been blessed to build our family through the amazing gift of adoption.
Our family are huge Colts fans and we also love the St. Louis Cardinals. Before kids, we went to games and look forward to the day we can introduce the boys to our extra curricular/sports loves too. We finally took them to their first Cardinals game at Busch Stadium last summer, but when they ran out of popcorn and peanuts, the game was over in their minds.
Some fun facts about the teacher…
1. I have a weakness for fountain Cokes.
2. I LOVE mexican food.
3. I’m terrified of heights and enclosed spaces.
4. Elephants are my favorite animal.
5. Green is my favorite color.
6. I love photography and writing.
7. I love to read, but rarely have time anymore so I just keep collecting books to read when life slows down. Ha!
These are just a few random facts about me. Now, I am looking forward to getting to know your children not only on an academic level, but all their fun quirky things too. I can promise you two things this school year: 1) I will not do everything perfectly or without error this year, but I’ll never give less than my best and will work my hardest for you and your children. 2) I will love your children like my own and care for them and teach them as I’d want my own little angels loved and taught.
I’m hoping for another blessed year in first grade and look forward to knowing you all this year!
