Preschool News

This Week’s Highlights:

 We experienced a fun summer celebration in preschool!

Crafts included dot painting summer pictures and constructing beautiful tissue paper summer flowers.

We also played in cornmeal (sensory), played on the computer, explored a number 20 counting jar, and we explored a summer basket with many common items we all hope to see lots of this summer.

We learned some new summer songs, drank lemonade, followed “summer” directions, and went fishing.  We completed a language lesson about what we like to do in the summer, went on a picnic, and did the Monster Stomp.  We went on a summer hunt, ate popsicles, made S’mores, and danced.

The AM class went to the library on Wednesday and the PM class enjoyed gym on Tuesday.

Odds and Ends:

  • End of year countdown: 3 days!

  • Our OTES life skill for the week was caring- to feel and show concern for others.

Week ending May 19

Preschool News

This Week’s Highlights:

 It was another fun week of review in preschool.

Crafts included completing and coloring a Dot to Dot number page, decorating sugar cookies with icing and sprinkles, and constructing birthday puppets.

We explored a number 19 counting jar, ordered numbers to 19, counted forward and backward, and followed a number path to 19.

We practiced 1 to 1 correspondence counting; played Red Light, Green Light; reviewed all alphabet letters and sounds, drew alphabet letters in shaving cream; assembled an alphabet caterpillar; and danced “The Phonercize”.

 Today, Thursday, we celebrated everybody’s birthdays with birthday puppets, birthday cupcakes, and birthday songs.

We also took advantage of the warmer weather to run, jump, play, and explore Mrs. Zabst’s new playhouse on the playground.  We snacked on our decorated cookies, Alphabet Cereal, and of course, birthday cake!

 

Odds and Ends:

  • Our OTES life skill for the week was sense of humor- to laugh and be playful without hurting others.

Week ending May 12-

Preschool News

 

This Week’s Highlights:

We will spend these next couple weeks of school reviewing lessons, Kindergarten readiness skills, and participating in activities the children loved during the school year.

We are also continuing our number learning up to 20 with this week’s special number being #18.

Crafts included putter painting, cutting shapes, and constructing our annual Indy race cars to decorate our preschool/Kindergarten hall.

We reviewed colors and shapes, explored a number 18 counting jar, marched with streamers, learned some new summer songs, and played a summer flower game on the computer where we all designed our own flower.

We played Color/Shape Bingo, sang the Shape Rap, danced the Hokey Pokey Shape Up, threw beanbags on shapes, and followed multi step directions with shapes. Our AM class had gym on Monday and our PM class heard a story from Mrs. Lane in our classroom on Tuesday.

Odds and Ends:

Our OTES life skill for the week was responsibility- to be accountable for your actions.
All Summer Enrichment forms have now been turned over to Administration with the deadline passing on 5/13.

Week ending May 5 Letter Zz ~#17

This Week’s Highlights:

 The year is quickly zipping by as we celebrated letter Zz, number 17, and the best moms in the world during this past week in school.

Crafts included drawing zebra stripes on letter Zz, creating a “MOM” banner where we all drew a picture of our moms, putting together craft sticks to make a zany Z, and planting beautiful flowers for our beautiful moms.

We explored a Zz basket and number 17 counting jar, visited a pretend zoo, zipped zippers, counted zinnia flowers, and used pompoms to march to “Zippity Doo Dah”.

We learned mom songs, shared mom stories, and did a language lesson called “What’s wrong at the Zoo?”. We danced the Zoo Hokey Pokey, explored a mom bag, and went on an A-Z alphabet hunt.  We snacked on zoo (animal) crackers, Zebra cakes, and a Ziploc bag snack.

The AM class had music today (Thursday) and the PM class had art on Tuesday.  The AM class welcomed a new friend.  All the morning friends  are happy to have him with us in the morning

Week ending Apr. 28 Letter Y # 16

This Week’s Highlights: 

Yes, yet another great week packed with fun and learning in preschool. 

Our efforts were concentrated on letter Yy and number 16- yikes, the year is moving by so quickly

Our crafts included gluing yellow yarn on Yy and we used yarn to measure our heights and then glued that yarn on to a paper as a little preschool keepsake.

We explored a Yy basket and number 16 counting jar, yelled (a little), played with a yo-yo, rolled a yarn ball to friends, and played in the school yard. 

And, we practiced computer skills, found lots of yellow, answered yes/no questions, started yam plants growing, and baked yummy yellow cornbread.  We also used a yard stick; played in yellow cornmeal (sensory); drew with yellow markers; ate yogurt snacks; and to honor the beginning of May, compared May flowers (same and different); and played a May basket game. 

The AM class went to the library for a story on Wednesday and the PM class enjoyed PE on Tuesday.  Along with therapies and work centers; yes, we did have lots of fun and learning!

Week ending April 21~ Letter Xx #15

This Week’s Highlights:

We experienced an exceptional week in preschool learning about letter Xx and number 15. 

Crafts included stamping X’s on Xx, coloring and gluing craft sticks into an X shape, and using stamps to make an XOXO pattern. 

We also explored an Xx basket and number 15 counting jar; made X’s with fingers, arms, and legs; discovered X’s and O’s hiding in our classroom; and used chalk to draw X’s on the playground sidewalk.  

We made and baked X breadsticks, lined all the letters to X and numbers to 15, and followed a number path leading us to number 15. 

We found several EXIT signs located in our school building, played Tic-Tac-Toe with X’s and O’s, sized X’s from little to BIG, viewed x-rays, and made x-tra delicious X snacks with pretzel rods and icing. 

The AM class experienced art on Tuesday and the PM class experienced and exceptional music lesson also on Tuesday.

EXTRA, EXTRA- READ ALL ABOUT IT– Our own Mrs. Lucie Sulewski competed in her second Boston Marathon on Monday with a time of 3:11:34.  This averages a 7:19 minute mile for 26.2 miles. (For those of you who do not know, Mrs. Sulewski is an elite runner who competes, and wins, many marathons all over the country.)  We are so proud!!

Week ending April 14 ~ Letter Ww #14

This Week’s Highlights

Welcome back to school after what was hopefully a fun, safe, and relaxing spring break.  We are now ready for our last weeks together before summer break.  

We focused our learning on letter Ww and number 14, and whew (!) we were busy! 

Crafts included watercolor painting on Ww, constructing colorful windsocks to hang in our classroom, and we used squirt bottles and coffee filters to create wonderful worlds. 

We also explored a Ww basket and number 14 counting jar, whispered, waved, and winked.  We went on wagon rides, built a waterfall, practiced writing, and met Willie Worm. 

And, we read about windy weather, walked BIG and little steps, and made wishes with a wishing wand.  Special Ww snacks for the week:  wafers, worms (gummy), and waffles- yum! 

The AM class participated in PE on Monday and the PM class went to the library for a story on Tuesday.  The AM class celebrated a birthday on Wednesday and the PM class welcomed a new student on Monday- fun and exciting!!  Thank you to the birthday boy’s family for sending in wonderful birthday snacks. 

Our OTES life skill this week was problem solving- to seek solutions to difficult situations.

Week ending Mar 31-Letter Vv #13

This Week’s Highlights:

Vv week was very, very interesting with much learning and vivacious fun!

We also counted to number 13-a lot!

Crafts included putting various vehicle stickers on letter Vv, cutting vegetables (child’s choice), and we stamped beautiful flowers in a V vase.

We also explored a Vv basket and number 13 counting jar; signed V with fingers, arms, and legs; followed a number path to 13; explored/compared a variety of vegetables; and practiced various computer skills.

We read about Vegetable Soup, played a variety of games, counted flowers in a vase, read our VIP story, reviewed vocabulary words, erupted a volcano, voted for a snack, and watched a short video.

Our snacks this week included many veggies and Veggie Straws. Our AM class visited music on Thursday and our PM class visited the art room on Tuesday.

Odds and Ends:

Our OTES life skill for the week was perseverance- to continue in spite of difficulties.

Week ending Mar. 24 – Letter Uu #12

This Week’s Highlights:

Our school year is moving unbelievably fast!!  This week found us focusing our learning on letter Uu and number 12. 

Crafts included putting USA stickers on letter Uu, driving cars dipped in paint around a U shaped racetrack (so fun!), placing fingerprint raindrops on an umbrella, and we did the very popular upside down coloring- unusual!

We explored a Uu basket and number 12 counting jar, put thumbs up for Uu (language lesson), completed an obstacle course going over and under, and met an elephant wearing some fancy underwear (snicker). 

We played a fun umbrella game (following directions), reviewed colors using umbrellas, climbed under a rope, reviewed prepositions using cars and garages, lined alphabet letters to Uu, and went on a Uu search. 

In addition, we put together an umbrella puzzle, played on the playground, searched for Easter eggs, and unwrapped a surprise snack.  We also loved eating upside down sundaes today. 

Our AM class went to the library for a special story on Wednesday and the PM class enjoyed gym class on Thursday. .

  • Our OTES life skill for the week was patience- to wait calmly for someone or something.

Week ending Mar. 17 Letter Tt #11

Preschool News

This Week’s Highlights:

Cheers for letter Tt and number 11! 

Crafts included putting thumbprints on letter Tt; cutting colorful tulips to hang in our classroom; and coloring and gluing totally terrific teddy bear crafts. 

We also explored a Tt basket and number 11 counting jar, traced triangles, played a timer game, and continued to perfect our “mouse skills” with Starfall computer practice time. 

We put together a top 10 list (language), danced the infamous Tooty Ta, tapped our toes, made a person train, crawled through a tunnel, and made tasty cinnamon toast. 

Today, Thursday, was the best day of all because it was Teddy Bear Day!  Our teddy bears participated in Show and Tell, assisted with craft, learned teddy bear songs, danced to music, did some marching, and enjoyed a “Tt” party with Teddy Grahams and tea (juice) served in tea cups. 

Expect teddy bears to be very tired this evening and may even want to go to bed early.  Both classes are still “off track” with their specials schedule due to testing in the upper grades.  We are hopeful that we will enjoy specials classes next week. (Our fingers are crossed!)
