The second grade took a wonderful study trip to the Country Market in Zionsville. It could not have been a more perfect day!
Our tour started off with an introduction to the importance of agriculture, especially to the state of Indiana.
Then we got to meet some of Indiana’s most famous farm animals.
After that we took a hayride and stopped to learn about the importance of honeybees in our environment. I think that was much needed after a not so relaxed lunch filled with honeybees swarming around us.
Enjoying the weather and burning some energy.
Group shot! Everyone was able to chose a pumpkin to take home.
The 2nd grade had a great tour of downtown Westfield this week! Mrs. Shuck, who is a 7th generation resident of Westfield, was our tour guide. She also is a guide for the “Voices of the Past” tour given to the public. She shared some interesting facts about Westfield’s past including the houses that were involved in the Underground Railroad, as well as the cafeteria John Dillenger liked to stop and eat.
We have been learning all about communities in 2nd grade! After learning about the similarities and differences between urban, suburban, and rural communities, children used recyclables to construct the three different types of communities. On Thursday we will travel to downtown Westfield to continue our study of communities then and now. Look for pictures to come!
I will use this blog for both students and parents. It’s a great way for me to keep you updated on activities and upload pictures. The children will use it during class to easily access research sites, online websites, and games (which can also be accessed from home). Please encourage your children to look and use the links located on the right side of this page.
