traditions

November 6th, 2013

So Halloween is not my favorite holiday, but it is one that I treasure because of the traditions Drew and I have with our friends. Every year we host a Halloween party at our house. Costumes are a must. As well as hot apple cider, a black light dance party, & lots and lots of finger foods. Over the years some traditions have come and gone with the party. For example, a bonfire seems to only happen once every few years because of weather. When we were younger we watched movies at midnight, typically Mean Girls,  (Yes, you read that right) but now people usually depart around midnight.  We also carve pumpkins depending on the date of the party. Recently we have added the traditions of playing Just Dance and Reverse Charades, which are hilarious.  A highlight from this year’s party was Drew and I challenging another couple at the dance from “Dirty Dancing” on Just Dance 4. It was… let’s just say… AMAZING! haha. (And we won, of course!)

So who are these friends that are still coming to a Halloween party seven years later and dressing up in homemade costumes?  These are Drew’s friends from high school mostly! The group has changed and added and dropped people over the years, but there is a core group of friends that Drew has been hanging out with for fifteen years. I feel so blessed that I am a part of this group. I also love the fact that Drew enjoys hosting parties like I do. 🙂

Anyway. Taking a break from grading, and blogging about something that brings me joy sounded like some much needed therapy.

Here’s our costumes at our second party in 2007

So… I got to go camping last weekend and my friend Jacqui (who is also an English teacher) takes amazing pictures. She captured some beautiful shots of my family and it fills my heart with joy to look at these. I hope they make you smile too.

cw club

Yesterday we had our first “long” meeting for creative writing club and I really enjoyed getting to stay late and hang out with the club members.  We got the blog started and I am excited to keep working on it and adding to it. Next week is the club fair and I am hopeful to get a few more students to join!

working mom…

April 23rd, 2013

so some days I feel that coming to work is soo easy. I love my job. I love having a reason to shower and dress up in the morning. I love my students. I love what I teach…. BUT other days, all I can think about is how i love my son and I miss him. Inman is soo much fun right now. He learns something new every day and has such a joy for life that I find it hard to ever feel stressed when I am with him.

But, in the end, I am glad that I am working and I am so blessed to have a wonderful babysitter who sends me videos and pictures while I’m here! Watch below! 🙂

my son is one…

IMG_0593it’s so hard for me to believe that Inman is one already, yet at the same time, I can’t even remember life without a baby.  Things like sleeping in on a Saturday, running errands alone, going to the movies on a whim…. those seem like YEARS ago.  Yet when I rock Inman in my arms I wonder how a full year has passed and he has gotten so big… and I think ahead to all the years that are going to pass and how all i have is this moment.  So i am taking a minute to hold on to the moment where Inman is one. The only grandbaby on the Kjeldsen side. His first birthday. His second Easter. The sadness of being sick for four days.  Breaking out in a rash from his medication. The beauty of being the one he wants when he is sad. Laughing and smiling at his mommy.  So, here’s to Inman on his first of many birthdays… and may I continue to treasure up these moments in my heart.

So… it’s a boy! 🙂 The name comes from the book Cold Mountain (Yes, there is a movie of it!) and the middle name is Drew’s Grandfather’s first name and his father’s middle name. And yes, I cried when we found out!

Drew’s brother got married last weekend! It was beautiful and I’m so excited for this new phase in their life. Being married is the best (as I have previously blogged about!)
