Monday 9/12: Writing prompt, learn and practice ACES (focus on explaining text evidence), setting notes and activity. HW: Finish writing prompt if not completed in class.

Tuesday 9/13: Theme notes and theme comic strips (Lemon’s Homeroom was only class to begin comic strips), read expositions of two stories and focused on the setting (time, place, and environment). HW: Quiz corrections due Friday.

Wednesday 9/14: Review theme and finish theme comic strips. Theme matching activity. Review pronouns, antecedents, and their purposes. HW: Quiz corrections due Friday. Finish theme comic strips if not completed in class.

Thursday 9/15: Review story elements by completing a plot diagram for Pixar short videos. More review and practice with pronouns. HW: Quiz corrections due tomorrow.

Friday 9/16: Quiz 1 corrections due at the beginning of class. Review theme with TV show theme songs and theme task cards. Review ways to prewrite for a narrative and revise Monday’s writing prompt by expanding the exposition- introducing background information, characters, and setting. HW: Study for Monday’s quick check- setting, theme, plot diagram.

 

Monday 9/5: No School- Labor Day

Tuesday 9/6: Notes and practiced for ACES (restating and citing text evidence), reviewed for writing assessment (Thursday), wrote “If I were a…” paragraph.  Homework: finish “If I were a…” paragraph, bring library books tomorrow, and study for Friday’s quiz.

Wednesday 9/7: Library. Text structure quick check. Time to study for quiz in class. HW: Study for Friday’s Quiz!

Thursday 9/8: Plot diagram notes and practice.  Practiced citing evidence in class and word choice (bullseye words). HW: Study for Quiz (ACES, linking/helping verbs, simple/complete subject/predicate, text structure, conflict, etc.).

Friday 9/9: QUIZ! Review of skills, sentence fluency, writing conventions, catch up/review of skills.

 

Monday 8/29: “Back to School” writing prompt, ACES practice (restating the question only), review of QAR, review of helping and linking verbs in class. Homework: finish writing prompt if not completed in class.

Tuesday 8/30: Reviewed simple/complete subject and predicate, practiced compound subject and predicate, and brainstormed writing topic ideas on A to Z chart. No homework.

Wednesday 8/31: Finish A to Z idea chart. Character snapshots, characterization notes, and overview of 4-square writing graphic organizer in class. HW: Finish A to Z idea chart if not completed in class.

Thursday 9/1: Character sketch, review 4 square organizer, and write 4 square paragraph to describe character sketch in class. HW: Finish character sketch paragraph if not completed in class. Review RUPRT and types of Writing notes (Narrative, Informative, Argumentative) for a quick check tomorrow!

Friday 9/2: Writing/RUPRT Quick check, types of Characters notes, Character types practice, “If I Were A…” writing in class.

**It was great to meet everyone at Meet the Teacher Night last night.  If you were unable to attend, handouts will be sent home this week with your student.

8/26: Practice identifying text structure in reading. Review types of conflict in literature.  No homework- enjoy your weekend! 🙂

8/24: First Media Center visit of the year today! Students may check out up to two books (due 2 weeks from today during our next Media Center visit).  We  also reviewed the types of conflict in literature through a sort and task cards. No homework! 🙂

8/23: Practiced Q.A.R./D.O.K. levels 3 and 4, grammar review, and conflict notes in class. No homework 🙂

8/22:  Finished Reading NWEA in class. Finish “Special Moment” writing prompt if not completed in class.

 

8/19: Reading NWEA in class.  We will finish the test on Monday as necessary. No homework- enjoy your weekend!

8/18: Practiced linking verbs, action verbs, and Q.A.R. levels 1 and 2 in class. No homework! 🙂
